Naomi Johns
Naomi Johns is an Australian soprano who has been equally praised for her “soaring coloratura and deliciously over-the-top performance” as well as her ability to capture “purity and pathos…her soprano caressing the tale of woe and prayer alike” Showcasing her remarkable versatility and substance across both Operatic and Music Theatre repertoire.
After completing her certificate of Music Theatre at the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) and commencing a Bachelor or Performing Arts at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Naomi joined Opera Australia in their national tour of My Fair Lady. She then proceeded to work part time with the company between international trips for coaching and development.
Naomi has been a finalist in every major National vocal competition and was the first female winner of the Bel Canto Award from the Joan Sutherland and Richard Bonynge Opera Foundation in 2013. This enabled her to continue her coaching in New York, Cardiff and London. Following this she made her role debut as Mimì in Puccini’s La Bohème for Opera on the Avalon in Canada and attended the George Solti Accademia di bel canto before being called home to Perth.
Since returning to Western Australia Naomi has debuted as Desemona in Verdi’s Otello, The Foreign Princess in Dvoraks Rusalka and Berta in Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia. Other highlights include making her debut as Carlotta Giudicelli with Opera Australia in The Phantom of the Opera for Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour and covering the role of Madama Cortese in Il Viaggio a Reims.
This year she will also be debuting another Verdi Heroine in Il Trovatore for West Australian Opera under the baton of Ascher Fisch.
